At -160 by Decision, Alexander is the Play over Urango
by John Chavez

Mar 05, 2010 -
It's one of the most predictable outcomes of 2010 if there ever was one.

Devon "The Great" Alexander vs. Juan Urango pits one junior welterweight's rise to prominence against the ultimate "truth" test in the Colombian.

At just 19-0 and hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Alexander is poised to make his bid as the top 140 pound fighter in the world. At a mere 23 years-old, this slick southpaw is just a pup by age in a big dog's sport but up until this point, the young man has shown that he more than belongs amongst the elite junior welterweights today.

Going into this Saturday night's bout on HBO, the line-makers at 5dimes.com have listed Alexander as a -485 favorite over Juan Urango. That's almost 5-1 for you non-degenerates.

This line seems fairly even being that Alexander's style meshed with Urango's make for a perceived clear-cut victory for the young American.

Urango has shown a tendency to plod and follow his opponent around in a trance-like-state not employing the necessary tactics to adjust effectively.

This is why I see an opportunity and value in betting Alexander by decision as he's listed at -160. "The Great" isn't a KO artist by nature and should he somehow stop his heavily-muscled opponent inside the distance, it'd be of great shock to me. The only way I see the Colombian not surviving until the final round is if making the 140 pound limit has finally compromised his ability to absorb a clean punch which can tend to happen as one's career progresses.

In any case, I like Alexander to out-box Urango to a fairly clear-cut decision utilizing a sharp jab, smooth foot-work, and combination punching when the opportunity provides itself.

"The Boxing Bookie" will be betting $480 to win $300 on this fight.

As it stands right now, our bankroll sits at $10,300 starting from Jan 1, 2010.

Let's see how big we can pile up our earnings in this shitty economy...
