Fury Works Off Rust

April 11, 2026 marked the beginning of a new chapter for former two-time World Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury . Following another in a series of sabbaticals away from the sport of Boxing, this one following suffering his only two career defeats in consecutive fights to Oleksandr Usyk , this chapter at the age of thirty-seven was the start of a comeback. Fury’s opponent for his first fight in nearly two years was contender Arslanbek Makhmudov in London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium .  Makhmudov, a veteran of twenty-three professional fights coming into this encounter, had the size and punching power that on paper appeared as though he may have been able to pose a legitimate challenge to Fury, and was not a soft touch for a “Comeback Fight.” Initially, Makhmudov seemed as though he would provide just that by frequently and aggressively pushing Fury back against the ropes and frailing wide, looping punches. Although it needs to be pointed out that Tyson Fury has not been known as a tr...

Opetaia-Glanton Thoughts

The fight between Jai Opetaia and Brandon Glanton on March 8th at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, NV was one that could be described as one of the hottest rising stars in the sport going against a top contender, who may eventually also be considered among the best in Boxing, that shined a light on the often lightly regarded and consistently lacking name recognition, Cruiserweight division . A synopsis that frankly did not need controversy. For the unbeaten Opetaia, however, the fight would have such a shadow of controversy as the fighter, recognized by both the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and Ring Magazine as World Cruiserweight champion, would see the IBF withhold sanctioning of the bout two days before it took place due to what it felt was a lack of respect by the promoter Zuffa Boxing , who is attempting to establish it's own world championships for fights held under its banner in an attempt to establish Unified Boxing Organizations (UBO’s). A format that seems to m...

Main Event: WBC World Light-Heavyweight championship David Benavidez defending against Anthony Yarde The top of the bill will see unbeaten two-division world champion David Benavidez defending his Light-Heavyweight world title against multi-time world title challenger Anthony Yarde. Jabs And Observations July-August 2025

The time has come once again for this observer to pull out the periodic feature here on The Boxing Truth®️ Jabs And Observations. A feature column that was originally thought up as a bi-monthly addition as an attempt by yours truly to cover even more ground than what is typically found during a standard calendar year in covering the sport of Boxing. In more recent times, however, the concept of what I refer to as J&O in referencing upcoming features on social media has been used when pauses in the usual schedule have been unwanted, but necessary. While the month of July necessitated such a pause that was not intended by yours truly, it certainly did not mean that the sport was inactive. In fact, it was quite the opposite. When one will look back at the month that was July 2025 down the line, it will likely be summed up in two words: “Marquee Events." A description that due largely to the fourth of July holiday, the fact that it is in the middle of the summer here in the United...

Usyk-Joshua II Preview

In September of last year, undefeated former Undisputed Cruiserweight world champion turned top Heavyweight contender Oleksandr Usyk entered the ring to challenge two-time unified Heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua for his IBF/WBA/WBO/IBO crown. Before a crowd of 66,267 spectators at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, Usyk masterfully outboxed the heavy favorite Joshua over twelve rounds to win the unified world championship and in the process score what was considered by many to be a major upset.   The basis of that obviously stems from the fact that Usyk became one of a handful of fighters to have successfully moved up from the Cruiserweight division to win a portion of the World Heavyweight championship. It also should not be ignored that he did so against a fighter in Joshua that had only been the distance twice in his career prior to that fight having scored knockouts in twenty-two of his twenty-four career wins.   As masterful as that performance...
