On August 29, Metro City Night Club sees the return of Dragonfire Promotions for their third event of the year.

Early in the night, undefeated WA State Cruiserweight Champion Billy Quinncroft makes his first title defence when he steps into the ring against former training partner Will Cleggett.

When catching up with the defending Brit he stated that he was fit and ready to go, having started his camp straight after his previous outing.

“I’ve just gone straight into another camp after the last fight” Quinncroft said, “I'm feeling fit, strong and ready to defend my title.

Quinncroft won the state title in his last fight against Bilal Seidu last May. Throughout the encounter, Quinncroft showed superior technique with his footwork and use of the jab, but there were some moments where Seidu was able to catch him.

When reflecting, Quinncroft said that he was happy with his performance that night.

“I watched [the fight] back, I was definitely the more technical boxer” Quinncroft felt. “He threw some big shots, but not a lot of them hit me.

“He did catch me once in the third and again in the fifth when he caught me straight on the chin.

“But after watching it back multiple times, I was very comfortable and felt in control of the fight.”

The Englishman’s upcoming fight will be his second under the coaching of Big Rig’s gym, which has produced some of Perth’s best prospects such as Jude Grant, Joel Lewis and Jordan LaRuccia.

Throughout his time in camp, Quinncroft has admitted to being surprised at his rapid progress as a fighter.

“The training is a lot more intense and I’ve just been levelling up” Quinncroft said.

“When I look back from my pro debut to now, I feel like a totally different fighter.

“I'm excited to put in a good performance for this one and see the difference to where I'm at now after changing gyms.

“I’ve come so far in such a short time.”

Standing in his way this time is former training partner Will Cleggett. On the same card Quinncroft won the state title, Cleggett won his fight against Cameron Moffat which was said to be a title eliminator.

Having trained with him in the past, the state champion feels that he knows what to expect from his worthy opponent.

“I've sparred Will a lot and I've watched his fight back” Quinncroft said.

“Will is very technical and has a very tight guard.

“He's a bit of a counterpuncher but I should be able to manage that with my reach and distance.

“The fight will be more of a technical battle compared to my fight with Bilal [Seidu], so I'm hoping it should be a decent chess match.”

After his upcoming title encounter, Quinncroft is in no rush to get back into the ring.

“[After this fight] I'm going to have a short break” Quinncroft told.

“There's potentially talks for a fight either before or after November. If not, then I'll be ready to go again in March.”

The postponement of the card came as a result of legislation changes in limiting capacities to 150 people in nightclubs and other indoor events in Western Australia due to the ongoing global COVID-19 epidemic.

'Can't Wait To Be Out There': Action Jackson's Return To The Ring In Sight

Press Release: May 9, 2021 By Dragon Fire Boxing – Mandurah boxing sensation "Action" Jackson England is eager to rank as number 30 in the world when he takes to the ring at Thunderdome this month.

Squaring off against New Zealand fighter Shiva Mishra on May 28, England will be hoping to power his way to victory in his first bout in over a year.

The pandemic hit hard for England, who went from having at least four fights a year to none in the blink of an eye.

"It's been very frustrating not having someone to fight in over a year," he said.

"I've been training non-stop all year around but the biggest factor is that you can do as much hard work as you want but if you have no goal to look forward to you get quite agitated.

"There's nothing to put your hard work towards and now that I actually have a fight I can't wait to be out there again."

Now the Mandurah-based fighter is set to contest the WBC Asian Boxing Council and IBO Oceania Orient Championships, which would see England hit the top 30 in the world if he wins.

"In March last year I won the WBC Asia Super Featherweight Title, which put me at 40 in the world," England said.

"These next two belts are guaranteed top 30 in the world so they put me down 10 more spaces in the world ranking.

"I'm excited, happy and grateful for this fight."

England said he had been covering all his bases to prepare for his return to the ring.

"I've been doing all my work up at my coach's house because due to COVID-19 he had to close his gym doors," he said.

"He moved everything to his place up in the mountains. The altitude up there is quite high and it's thin air so all of the training is a hell of a lot harder."

Other than getting ready for his fight against Shiva Mishra there has been something even bigger England has been preparing for. A baby.

"I've got a baby on the way so I want to get this fight out the way so I can be there for my partner," England said.

"By the end of the year I'm hoping to have more fights.

"I want to fight some bigger names but a lot of them don't want to fight until it's in their favour, however, if I win these two fights they will have to fight me there is no where to hide."

England's bout will be held at Metro City in Perth on Friday, May 28.

Jackson England Back In Action May 28

Press Release: April 27, 2021 By Dragon Fire Boxing – Australia’s highly rated "Action" Jackson England 12-1 is all set to get back under the bright lights in the squared circle after being out of Action for more than a year due to limited opponents and covid restrictions.

The West Australian standout steps up to super featherweight to contest the WBC Asian Boxing Council and IBO Oceania Orient Championships on May 28 in Metro City, Perth in the Main Event of the popular Thunderdome series vs New Zealand Shiva Mishra 7-3 over 10 rounds.

England has had a solid start to his professional career, winning 12 of his opening 13 professional contests whilst becoming Australian Featherweight champion and WBC  Silver ABCO Title in the process. Jackson, who is trained at the Onyx Gym by head trainer Jay Gray in Perth, opened up about his upcoming title clash.

England said,
"I am excited to be progressing in the way I am and I believe I can go all the way in this sport. I am still only young, so it is important to have the right people to guide you. I need to have that and I believe I do in Tony Tolj and Dragon Fire Boxing.

“I have the opportunity thanks to Tony to fight for another WBC title. We all grew up watching the likes of Floyd Mayweather winning WBC titles, so to start along that path is something I’m very grateful to be given the chance to go on.”

England returns on this year's second installment of the world-renowned Thunderdome series since the pandemic hit, that has been a mainstay of Australian boxing for decades in itself. England discussed his next outing and his plans for 2020.

He said, "Well I firstly need to keep listening to my manager Tony Tolj as he knows what's best for my career. He's guided the likes of the Moloney's, Bruno Tarimo, Andres Campos to major titles and I want to follow in their footsteps and I believe I can. They are all world rated, Ive just cracked the WBC ratings prior to the pandemic and we are just getting started.

"I'm always improving, so I expect to put on a career-best performance at the Thunderdome show. I believe I can go all the way to the top in this sport and I have the opportunity to get back into the WBC rankings in my next fight so that is a massive motivation for me in this fight.

"I wanted more titles in 2021 and I have that opportunity on May 28. I believe that I can progress up the world ratings titles in a way the likes of Bruno Tarimo has done around my weight so I'd like to follow his path up the world route as I believe I'm destined for world titles eventually."
