The evening’s main event will see Kazakhstan’s Batyrzhan Jukembayev (20-1, 16 KOs) collide with Argentina’s Hugo Alberto Roldan (22-1-1, 7 KOs) in the super lightweight division over 10 rounds. Canadian based southpaw, Jukembayev comes off two consecutive knockout victories following a lone career defeat to Subriel Matias. Roldan was last in action against Jose Hugo Acevedo in February winning a WBA regional title by unanimous-decision.

The chief support sees the return of Guatemalan superstar Lester Martinez (16-0, 14 KOs) in a 10 round duel at super middleweight with the Las Vegas based Lionell Thompson (22-5, 12 KOs). Martinez dispatched of Lucas de Abreu on ProBox TV just two months ago. Thompson’s last fight saw him pick up a points victory over former world title challenger Jose Uzcategui, but has seen a large part of inactivity in his career since.

The WBA Inter-Continental light heavyweight title will be on the line when Australia’s Clay Waterman (11-0, 8 KOs) clashes with Canada’s Kareem Hackett (11-0, 6 KOs). Someone’s 0 will have to go in the 10 round title fight. Queensland’s Waterman comes off a victorious American debut against the undefeated Kenmon Evans three months ago in Verona. Toronto’s Hackett knocked out Christian Thomas in Los Angeles this past May.

Ismael Villarreal (12-1, 8 KOs) locks horns with John David Martinez (19-2, 16 KOs) at super welterweight, the bout scheduled for 8 rounds. Villarreal suffered a career lone defeat in his last outing against Ardreal Holmes Jr in Topeka this past February. Martinez is undefeated in eight fights and four years. He comes off a points victory over Francisco Fuentes two months ago.

Lester Martinez Hoping Win Against Lucas de Abreu will Propel him to Become Guatemala’s 1st World Champion

Press Release July 12, 2023 By ProBox TV - Super middleweight contender Lester Martinez has represented his native Guatemala with distinction as an amateur winning 5 Gold medals throughout the Central American Games, Central American and Caribbean Games and Central American Championships.

Turning pro in 2019, life on the professional circuit has started perfectly for the 27 year old trained by Brian ‘Bo Mac’ McIntyre accumulating a healthy record of 15-0 (13 KOs) to date. Oddly enough he started his pro campaign with a 2nd round knockout victory over the legendary Ricardo Mayorga in his nation’s capital, Guatemala City.

On Wednesday night Martinez locks horns with Brazil’s Lucas de Abreu on ProBox TV’s Wednesday Night Fights co-main event in a 10 round duel. A fight that Martinez hopes will propel him to become his country’s first world champion.

“I won Gold medals in the Central American and Caribbean, this is something that has not been done in 68 years in Guatemala.” Martinez said. “I would like to thank ProBox TV for this opportunity, I’m looking to impress people on this show and show boxing fans what I am capable of. I plan to become Guatemala’s first ever world champion in boxing, it has been something my country has never achieved. However, the sport is growing little-by-little back at home and I plan to carry the flag for Guatemala in the professional system much like I did in the amateurs.”

Martinez is managed by the well renowned Richard Steele and trained by the highly regarded Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre. Abreu, who stands in his way, comes off successive points defeats to Darrelle Valsaint and Ernesbadi Begue. His record currently stands at 14-3 (11 KOs).

“I know Lucas de Abreu will be very tough.” Martinez added. “He is very experienced and has a good record, I’m expecting a good fight and a tough test. He did well in the amateurs too, I’m hoping the fans enjoy seeing me fight.”

Gallegos Stops Lopez In 5: RJJ Boxing 10/14/2021 Results From Sinaloa, Mexico

Super-Middleweight Manuel Gallegos scored a fifth round stoppage of veteran Gabriel Lopez on Thursday night at the Auditorio Benito Juarez in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. Gallegos used his taller height to keep Lopez at distance where Lopez had trouble getting on the inside and being able to close the distance consistently. In round four, Gallegos dropped Lopez with a left hook to the body that sent Lopez down on his knees in a neutral corner. Although Lopez struggled, he was able to beat the count, but appeared clearly hurt. A short combination highlighted by a right hand to the head sent Lopez down for the second and final time as the bout was stopped without a count following the second knockdown. Official time of the stoppage was 1:21 of round five. Manuel Gallegos advances to 19-1, with 16 Knockouts. Gabriel Lopez falls to 10-6-1, with 7 Knockouts.

Also on this card:

In a grueling Super-Middleweight battle undefeated Lester Martinez overcame a knockdown in the late rounds to earn a very hard-fought ten round unanimous decision over Raiko Santana. The fight was fought in close from the outset with both fighters being more than willing to engage and neither really taking a backwards step. Martinez seemed to pull ahead slightly in the middle rounds, but Santana nearly brought the fight to a sudden conclusion when he dropped the unbeaten Martinez with a left hook to the body in round eight. Despite the ebb and flow seeming to shift towards Santana at that point in the bout, Martinez was able to regain his poise and pounded out the decision win. Official scores were 95-94 (On two scorecards), and 97-92 in favor of Martinez.  Lester Martinez advances to 10-0, with 9 Knockouts. Raiko Santana falls to 8-3, with 5 Knockouts.

Undefeated Lightweight prospect Luis Torres scored a second round knockout over late substitute Jose Guevara. Torres systematically walked Guevara down with steady pressure and power punches. The end came in the closing seconds of round two when Torres successfully cornered Guevara and knocked him down with a right hook to the body. Although the end of the round came while Guevara was on the canvas, he was unable to beat the count. Official time of the stoppage was 3:00 of round two. Luis Torres advances to 13-0, with 9 Knockouts. Jose Guevara falls to 6-6-1, with 2 Knockouts.

19 year old unbeaten Lightweight prospect Jorge Lugo Cota began the evening by scoring a six round unanimous decision over Edgar Alameda. Cota displayed superb head movement, a consistent a varied jab that he used to dictate the combat from the opening bell. Alameda was very “Game” and tried to fight back, but he was unable to land anything to quell Cota’s head movement or ability to dictate the fight. As the fight progressed, Cota began to implement a steady body attack and it was a flush left hook to the body that sent Alameda down late in round four. Although at times it appeared that the fight could have and perhaps should have been stopped due to the gradual beating Alameda was taking, he was able to last the six round distance in becoming the first to go the distance with Cota. Official scores were 60-53 (On two scorecards), and 60-52 all in favor of Cota. Jorge Lugo Cota advances to 5-0, with 4 Knockouts Edgar Alameda falls to 4-3-1, with 3 Knockouts.

This card was the first of two consecutive evenings of Boxing in Sinaloa, Mexico promoted by future Hall of Famer Roy Jones’ RJJ Boxing. We will continue our coverage on Friday night in addition to offering a summary of the two nights of Boxing. Stay tuned.
