Owen Corrigan Talks Thunderdome 54 And Training With The Moloney Twins

Press Release: May 26, 2026 By Dragon Fire Boxing -  On May 29, DragonFire Promotions makes their return to the Metro City Night Club for yet another electric night of fights.

In the main event, “Big Bad” Michael Bazley looks to win a WA State title in his third professional fight when he takes on Damien Johnson.

Before the heavyweight clash, Ireland’s Owen Corrigan looks to win his second championship of the year when he rematches Micah Rivetti for the ANBF Australasian Light Heavyweight Title.

Just one week removed from the biggest fight of his career so far, Corrigan is embracing the moment heading into his upcoming bout.

“It’s a privilege,” Corrigan said.

“I came to Australia with not really a whole lot behind me and to now say I’m the state champion and fighting for an Australasian title it’s something I’m very proud of.

“It gives me a lot of motivation and it fuels me.”

Corrigan and Rivetti first met earlier this year for the WA State Light Heavyweight Championship, with the Irishman edging the split decision win.

Despite getting the victory in their first encounter, Corrigan admits he walked away from the performance unsatisfied.

“In terms of performance, I don’t think it was my greatest,” Corrigan revealed.

“I’ve watched the fight back repeatedly since and although I believe I won every round, I don’t think I stamped my presence on the fight the way I should have.”

“[Rivetti is] nicknamed ‘mad dog’ for a reason, he’s fought everyone on short notice but now he’s had two full training camps to prepare for me.

“I’m expecting the best Micah Rivetti to turn up and I’m expecting a hard fight.”

Corrigan understands the importance of leaving no doubt the second time around, by winning in a more decisive fashion.

“It would mean a lot to get the stoppage,” Corrigan said.

“Of course I want to win the title, but I need people to know who Owen Corrigan is, this could be the coming out party that I need.”

In preparation, Corrigan made the decision to take his camp interstate, relocating to the Gold Coast to train under renowned coach Angelo Hyder alongside former world champions Andrew and Jason Moloney.

Corrigan says the experience has elevated both his mindset and his understanding of the sport.

“I knew going into the last fight that things in my camp just weren’t up to standard,” Corrigan admitted.

“Angelo has trained multiple world champions and being around the Moloney twins has been unbelievable.”

“You learn so much being around that environment. You learn about boxing and about the business, it really opens your mind.

“As fighters we need to learn as much as we can when we can.”

Perhaps most surprising for Corrigan has been Hyder’s approach to refining his style rather than rebuilding it completely.

“I thought everything would be turned upside down,” Corrigan revealed.

“But Angelo has really looked at what I already do well and focused on bringing the best out of it. I suppose that was one of the biggest surprises.

“He sees me as a skilled boxer and we’ve just worked on sharpening everything. It’s been an all-round improvement.”

Now, with the ANBF Light Heavyweight Championship on the line, Corrigan believes fans will see a far more complete version of himself at Thunderdome 54.

If his words are anything to go by, he intends on making sure this rematch leaves absolutely no questions unanswered.

May 29th, Dragon Fire Boxing hits the Metro City Arena for the second time this year for the 54th edition of the iconic Thunderdome series with a stacked card.

One of the main events features undefeated Owen “Bomber” Corrigan” 5-0 taking of Micah Rivetti in a rematch for the Australian National Boxing Federations Light Heavyweight Australasian Championship.

The first fight was a cracker with the result a Split Decision and expect no difference in the second.

Corrigan opened up about his title fight challenge;

“The last fight is over and time to forget about it, wasn’t a trademark performance from my end but I take full accountability, sometimes you have those nights where you can’t get into your rhythm so you just make sure you win the rounds, thanks again for all the fans for coming out in support this fight will definitely live up to the expectations”

“Micah is a good opponent, I knew that going into the last fight, his record doesn’t indicate what he actually brings. Records are for djs. I’ll be honest I’m focused on being the best I can be rather than focusing on opponents. I’m fully confident going into this fight that I’ve got the ability to get the win emphatically”

“Second title and a major title too, madness what can happen when you put your mind to something, I just do the fighting it’s my team I’m grateful for. No point fighting for titles, I’m going to win it.”

“Micah, he’s a good guy I am too, I look forward to letting the boxing do the talk”.

“Shoutout to the fans, I cringe calling them fans because they are way more than that. They know that too. We’re on this journey together. When one goes to war we all go to war!!”

Corrigan opens up about his title challenge;

“Training camp been great so far, no niggles or worries been feeling fresh throughout been working on both the body and mind. Feeling very confident at the moment”.

“It’s a sureal moment to say I’m fighting for a Western Australian title, I grew up dreaming of Irish and Celtic titles obviously life throws different challenges at you and you find yourself emigrating, I left Dublin on the 11th of March and arrived in Western Australia on the 13th of March subsequently 3 years to the day I find myself very proud to be apart of the community in Western Australia. The people, the state, the beaches, the city everything about it I’ve fallen deeply in love with. To become champion of the area and have my name and WA linked together forever I’d be deeply proud of.”

“I’ve sparred some very good boxers in preparation obviously I’ve watched my opponent and picked sparring partners that are similar. Been sparring everyone from middleweights to heavyweights, some of the rounds people should be charged to watch because they have been fire!!”

“Best of luck to my opponent, listen I’m not gonna talk any crap, end of day we both have 2 arms 2 legs and have our own reasons to be fighting we are going to leave it all in the ring.”

Credit: Mike O'Hara/Dragon Fire Boxing

Press Release: October 21, 2025 By Dragon Fire Boxing - Friday November 28th, Metro City Night Club sees the return of Dragonfire Promotions for their final event of the year.

One of the featured contests is rematch pitting undefeated Owen “Bomber” Corrigan 3-0 as he runs it back with Chinas leading Light Heavyweight Liam Wang.

When catching up with the fighting pride of Ireland he stated that he was fit and ready to go, having started his camp straight after his previous outing.

“2025 has been successful 3 fights in a calendar year, I’m looking at more from last November 4 fights in 12 months I think is very good, each had different styles and characteristics, definitely the hardest been Laing so November 28 is gonna show the improvements been made over the year and how I’ve adapted to boxing professionally”.

Owen opens up on his thoughts regarding the rematch:

“Yeah I’ve wanted the rematch since we fought, i believe I’m a lot better than the last time we fought. I had a bad night in the office but still showed my levels to dig out a win, when I’m at my best I think I bring a lot of trouble to Laing and deal with him comprehensively

“Everything falling into place I’ve made the mistake in the past certainly the case last time we fight of going to had to early and peaking at the wrong time, been hitting numbers and ticking boxes from next week really I’m going to be lifting the lid on it, very confident in my mindset at the moment”

“Bring your best, because I’m not rematching you for fun!”

“Yeah another good crowd so far, unbelievably greatful to have these people coming down to support me, let’s hear ya roar, get down early get a few drinks in ya and lift the roof off the place let’s @#!% hear ya!!!

Promoter Tony Tolj discusses the match

“Owen is a great talent in the early stages of his career, the first fight was a cracker and Owen won every rounds. He has levels and I know hes been putting the work in and Friday November 28th we will see the new and improved “Bomber”. Ireland vs China in Australia this has an international incident written all over, this is going to be a war and fans will love it for sure.”
