Team USA Claims Four Gold Medals at 2026 PanAmerican Championships

— PUEBLA, Mexico --

USA Boxing’s Elite High Performance Team secured four gold medals at the 2026 PanAmerican Championships, after Alyssa Mendoza, Jajaira Gonzalez, Lorenzo Patricio and Gilbert Kabamba all earned victories on Saturday, October 24 inside the Miguel Hidalgo Gymnasium.

Mendoza (57 kilograms) kicked things off for the Stars and Stripes, as the Idaho native was the first American to enter the ring on Saturday. She went on to defeat Brazil’s 2024 Paris Olympian Jucie Cerqueira by unanimous decision after winning all three rounds. Mendoza had an impressive 3-0 gold medal campaign, winning every bout by unanimous decision. Her 2026 PanAmerican Championships gold medal marks her second medal of the year.

After Mendoza, Team USA saw Gonzalez (60 kilograms) win her gold medal in the second session, also by unanimous decision over Colombia’s Camila Camilo. The 2024 Paris Olympian earned three wins on her path to gold, including 3-2 wins over Canada and 5-0 wins over Brazil and Colombia. Gonzalez gold medal marks the first of the year.

On the men’s side, Patricio (55 kilograms) earned a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Brazil’s Michael Trindade. The Hawaii native has been dominant for Team USA in 2026, securing a 15-2 record, three medals, and now two gold medals. Patricio secured four victories in Mexico, all by unanimous decision, in his path to Gold.

Rounding out the day for Team USA was Kabamba (90+ kilograms), who secured his third 5-0 unanimous decision win of the week after defeating Colombia’s Juan Patiño. After falling 5-0 in the first round, Kabamba responded in the second and third rounds, sweeping both to earn the unanimous decision win. This was Kabamba’s first tournament with USA Boxing’s Elite High Performance Team, and he made an impressive debut, winning all his bouts by unanimous decision. This gold medal marks his second of the year, as he won gold earlier at the 2026 Copa America with USA Boxing’s Elite High Performance Squad.

Also competing on Saturday were Yoseline Perez and Simona Winkler. After three competitive rounds of Olympic-style boxing, Perez unfortunately lost 5-0 to Venezuela’s Diana Maestre, and Winkler lost 4-1 to Brazil’s Viviane Pereira. Both boxers are taking home silver medals after a strong week, as each won two bouts in Mexico.

USA Boxing sent fourteen athletes to Puebla, Mexico, and eight will head home with medals. Head Coach Billy Walsh and his coaching staff led Team USA to four gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals. All medalists are listed below. After the 2026 PanAmerican Championships, Team USA closes out its international competition schedule for the year. The USA Boxing Elite High Performance Team will now turn its attention to the 2027 calendar year.

Having her hometown serve as the foundation for her professional rise is something Rodriguez doesn't take lightly. She wants young fighters from Houston to be able to attend her fights and watch her journey unfold from the beginning.

Team USA Secures Eight Medals At 2026 PanAmerican Championships After A Perfect Day Five

Press Release:   By Bob Trieger - Full Court Press - PUEBLA, Mexico (October 23, 2026) – The USA Boxing Elite High Performance Team notched another perfect day on Thursday at the 2026 Pan American Championships in Puebla, Mexico. Team USA was led by Lorenzo Patricio, Yoseline Perez, Jajaira Gonzalez, and Simona Winkler, with Patricio and Perez punching their ticket to the medal rounds and Gonzalez and Winkler securing spots in the finals. With Patricio and Perez advancing, Team USA officially locked up eight medals at the 2026 Pan American Championships.

Team USA got off to a strong start after Patricio earned a unanimous decision victory over Cuba’s 2024 Paris Olympian Alejandro Claro. Patricio dominated the bout, winning all three rounds to secure a 5-0 decision. Patricio improved his Team USA record to 13-2 in 2026 and secured his third medal of the year. He will now face Puerto Rico’s Yedrian Otero in Friday’s Session 2, Bout 6 semifinal at approximately 8:15 p.m. ET.

In the second session, Perez got things started for Team USA, advancing after earning a dominant victory over Colombia’s Yeni Arias. In her tournament debut, Perez advanced to the semifinals after a win by abandonment, and she will now face Canada’s Scarlett Delgado on Friday in Session 2, Bout 1, at approximately 7 p.m. ET.

Following Perez, 2024 Paris Olympian Jajaira Gonzalez secured a unanimous decision victory over Brazil’s Rebeca Santos. The victory gives Gonzalez a 2-1 record against Santos across their three meetings and sends her to the finals, where she will face Colombia’s Camila Camilo on Saturday, October 24.

Simona Winkler rounded out the day for Team USA with an RSC victory over Colombia’s Deyaneira Casas. Winkler delivered three eight counts in the first round to secure her second RSC win of the tournament. Winkler advances to the finals, where she will face Brazil’s Viviane Pereira.

Team USA will continue its semifinal campaign on Friday, Oct. 23, with six boxers scheduled to compete. Noelle Haro (women’s 51 kg) will face Mexico’s Valeria Amparan in Session 1, Bout 1, at approximately 2 p.m. ET, while Alyssa Mendoza (women’s 57 kg) will take on Brazil’s Omailyn Alcala in Session 1, Bout 3, at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET. Salim Ellis-Bey (men’s 60 kg) will face Cuba’s Saidel Horta in Session 1, Bout 8, at approximately 3:45 p.m. ET. In the second session, Perez will meet Delgado at approximately 7 p.m. ET, followed by Patricio against Otero at approximately 8:15 p.m. ET. Gilbert Kabamba (men’s 90+ kg) will close out the day against Brazil’s Joel Ramos in Session 2, Bout 11, at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET.

In the eight-round main event, undefeated

Treavon Craycraft

(10-0-1, 3 KOs) scored the biggest victory of his professional career, defeating

Nico Ali Walsh

(12-3-1, 5 KOs)

by unanimous decision. Ali Walsh, the grandson of legendary heavyweight champion

Muhammad Ali

, entered Memorial Hall looking to get back into the win column, but Craycraft had other plans.

 

The undefeated fighter rose to the occasion over eight rounds, using the opportunity to establish himself against the most recognizable opponent of his young career. Craycraft maintained his composure under the main-event spotlight and did enough throughout the contest to earn the judges’ decision. Scorecards read 78-74, 77-75 twice all in favor of Craycraft.

 

For Craycraft, defeating Ali Walsh on a nationally and internationally accessible broadcast provided the type of breakthrough opportunity young fighters work toward, and he capitalized when it arrived.

 

The 8-round co-main event produced one of the evening’s most impressive performances as Baltimore’s undefeated bantamweight contender

Dominique Crowder

(20-0, 12 KOs) captured the

NABA Silver Bantamweight Title

with a devastating second-round knockout of Filipino contender

Jayson Mama

(21-5-1, 10 KOs).

 

Crowder entered the bout ranked

No. 12

by the

IBF

and looking to prove he was ready to take another significant step toward the upper tier of the bantamweight division. He did exactly that.

Rather than allowing the experienced Mama to settle into the fight, Crowder imposed himself early and ended matters in the second round, becoming the new

NABA Silver

champion.

 

The victory adds a championship belt to Crowder’s undefeated résumé and gives the Baltimore contender additional momentum as he pursues bigger fights and an eventual opportunity at a world championship.

Azariah Cottrell

made an impressive transition into traditional professional boxing, scoring a second-round knockout over veteran

(3-42-3, 1 KO) in their four-round lightweight bout.

 

Despite making her official professional debut against an opponent with more than 45 professional fights, Cottrell looked comfortable under the lights and ended the contest in the second round. The victory gives Cottrell a (1-0, 1 KO) and officially begins the professional chapter of a boxing journey that started when she was a child in Hawaii.

 

Unbeaten

Eric Valencia

(8-0, 7 KOs) continued his knockout streak with a first-round KO of

Martin Diaz

in their six-round super lightweight contest.

 

Valencia entered the fight having stopped six of his first seven professional opponents and once again demonstrated his finishing ability, ending the fight before the opening round concluded.

added another stoppage victory to his résumé, knocking out

The Brooklyn heavyweight (13-0, 8 KOs) has fought in New York City, Atlantic City, San Juan, Detroit and Flint, Michigan, in addition to Verona, New York, Chester, Pennsylvania, and College Park, Georgia. The 29-year-old Taylor has also been the most active American heavyweight with his thirteen bouts in less than 3 years.

Taylor, however, is heading West for first time in his next fight on November 7th in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when he steps up in terms of a quality opponent in 2020 Ukraine Olympian Tsotne “Mr. T” Rogava (13-1, 8 KOs), who has transitioned to boxing from kickboxing.     

“I love it,” Taylor claimed about fighting in Albuquerque for the first time. “All I know about Albuquerque is that it’s hot there and I’ll need to acclimate myself to the altitude level. On paper, a good win will put me on another level, and then people will say I’m pretty good. They won’t believe it until they see it.”

The 6’ 4”, 275-pound Taylor will be fighting somebody his own size in Rogava, who stands 6’ 3” and weighed 265 pounds in his last fight. The 33-year-old Rogava, who is guided by Hall of Fame trainer Joe Goossen, bounced back this past July with an 8-round unanimous decision over Mauricio Leon Perez (8-0-1), after suffering his first pro loss by way of a 6-round decision a little more than 1 year ago to Ahmed Krnjic (5-0) in the WBC Grand Prix quarterfinals.

“He’s a big dude but easier for me to fight,” Taylor said about Rogava. “They (larger heavyweights) don’t know how to fight inside and when I take away their jabs, they don’t know what to do. He has lost; I haven’t!”

“Pryce Taylor is a 13-0 road warrior,” Taylor’s manager Keith Sullivan commented. “He has always fought away and always won and now it’s time to start raising the stakes. His opponent is an Olympian who has competed at the highest level of amateur boxing, but Pryce isn’t looking for easy fights – he wants fights that move him forward. This is a real test and a real opportunity. I believe Pryce is ready to show that he’s not just an undefeated prospect, but a heavyweight who needs to be taken seriously.”

Taylor vs. Rogava is a scheduled ten-round match. Taylor went the ten-round distance in his last fight, taking a unanimous decision over Issac Munoz Gutierrez (18-2-1) in San Juan, while Rogava has 10-rounds once in his unanimous decision over Alexander Fores (19-4-1) in 2024.

“I showed I can go 10 rounds in my last fight,” Taylor added, “proving I’m capable of it, and getting close to the top. I felt good after 10 but I always train to go 12.

“Everybody has a lot to learn. I’m sharper in every way since my pro debut, because of everything I’ve experienced during my boxing career and life.”

A former New York State Athletic Commission Deputy Commissioner, Sullivan also manages undefeated 3-time, 2-division World Champion Miyo Yoshida (19-5, 1 KO), Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga (21-2, 21 KOs), Serbian heavyweight Sanel Hasanovic (10-1-1, 8 KOs), undefeated Staten Island light heavyweight prospect Artan Iseni (6-0, 5 KOs), Bronx NYPD officer Nisa Rodriguez (4-1, 2 KOs),lightweight Fei Faiva (6-0-1, 4 KOs) and junior featherweight prospect Brooklyn “The Big Deal” Barwick (5-1, 5 KOs). Sullivan also co-manages IBF Welterweight World title challenger Paddy “The Real Deal” Donovan (16-2, 12 KOs) and his cousin, middleweight Jim Donovan (2-0, 1 KO), alongside coach and ex-world champion Andy Lee.
