Updated Coronavirus Boxing-Related Cancellations/Postponements 3/27/2020

In addition to the announcement earlier this week by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that the scheduled 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan has been postponed until 2021 due to the ongoing Coronavirus epidemic, the sport of Boxing has continued to see postponements and cancellations made due to the virus.  Among the announcements made this week were an announcement by the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) group of promoters that it has cancelled all its scheduled events through the month of May. The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has also announced that it has suspended sanctioning bouts through the month of June. This likely was a contributing reason in the scheduled May 9th Undisputed Women’s Middleweight world championship fight between champion Claressa Shields and Marie Dicaire, which was scheduled to take place in Flint, MI as the main event of a Showtime televised Boxing card here in the United States. The promoter of the card, Salita Promotions has not announced a possible rescheduled date as of this writing. Rounding out the announcements as of this writing this week, the scheduled Atlantic City Hall of Fame induction weekend, which was scheduled to take place in Atlantic City, NJ between June 26th-28th has been postponed until the fall of the year on dates yet to be announced. In an effort to gather as much information as possible regarding postponements/cancellations, and potential rescheduling, updates will continued to be released in condensed-form once per week until such time as the Boxing schedule can resume. As announced last week however, while it is not appropriate under the present circumstances to present readers with the type of content and information that they are accustomed to when the sport is in its normal active state, any and all Boxing-related content sent to us in the form of press releases/announcements from promoters and television/streaming networks will continue to be made available to readers while the sport, much like the rest of the world, waits for things to get back to normal. We will continue to do our best to keep readers informed regarding postponements/cancellations and we thank our readers again for their continued patience during this unintended pause in the Boxing schedule.
