Exclusive Interview: Ricky Hatton

Press Release: November 18, 2023 By LuckyBlock.com -  Former world champion Ricky Hatton was recently interviewed by LuckyBlock. com and covered a variety of subjects including Anthony Joshua,Tyson Fury, and former opponent Floyd Mayweather. Below are some of the subjects that were discussed in the interview.

Anthony Joshua will prove doubters wrong

Anthony Joshua has faced a barrage of criticism over since his defeats to Andy Ruiz and Oleksandr Usyk but Hatton is adamant that AJ still has the desire and ability to win back the heavyweight titles he lost in 2021;

Ricky Hatton: “A lot of people have written Joshua off a little bit, and I would say they are doing it at their peril. Take Tyson Fury for example - not many people would have expected him to struggle against Francis Ngannou. That might give AJ a little bit of confidence knowing that he could be there to be beaten, if he gets the chance.

“AJ's got fantastic boxing ability - he's got the size, the power, the strength. He's got that boxing pedigree, rising all the way from the amateurs and becoming heavyweight champion of the world.”

Fury will be motivated by poor performance vs Ngannou

Hatton thinks only Tyson Fury will know if it’s his time to retire and he also reckons the Gypsy King’s fortunate win over Francis Ngannou will serve to strengthen his resolve should he fight Usyk next year;

Hatton: “When I made my comeback fight, I knew after two rounds that my ability had gone. But if Tyson's the man I think he is, and clever as I think he is, I think he'll know more than anyone whether it's time to hang his gloves up.

“If he gets the Usyk fight sorted next, I think the best Tyson Fury will turn up. He'll want to bounce back from the Ngannou fight. He'll train hard, he'll put his foot down because of the last fight. It might not have been such a bad thing, having a bit of stinker just before the Usyk fight. It might force him to get back on track. Had Tyson had knocked him out in two rounds, he might have gone into the Usyk fight a bit complacent.”

Trashtalking Mayweather is the most arrogant celebrity

Hatton lost his undefeated status to Floyd Mayweather back in 2007 and revealed that the American never had a good word to say either before or after the fight, even behind closed doors;

Hatton: “Oh yeah, by far [Mayweather is the most arrogant person Hatton has met]. Even behind closed doors when the camera is off, he never had the decency to come up to me and go, how are you doing? You okay? All he does is talk about himself.

“Who calls themselves Money Mayweather? Where did he come from, the projects? I come from the same thing, a council estate. I speak to kids and say, listen, I come from the same place as you, if I can do it, so can you. Believe in yourself, you can get there.

“What will Floyd do? Go down there and show them his watch, his chain and his ring on his pinky. I think the people in the projects would be absolutely disgusted if he turned up.”

Tommy Fury should have wiped the floor with Jake Paul

Tommy Fury was the bookmakers’ favourite to beat Jake Paul and although he came away with a split decision win, the Hitman feels he should have put in a far more convincing performance;

Hatton: “Everyone expected Tommy to come out and wipe the floor with Jake Paul, and it ended up being decided on a split decision. No disrespect to Tommy, but it's only over the short format. You would have expected Tommy to win those fights a little bit more comfortably than he did.

“I think because the influencer boxers are all over the shop it might have been a bit more difficult for him to predict. But you've got to give credit to [influencer boxers], because they are out of their comfort zone, aren't they? It

's not their area of expertise, so fair play.”

Stevenson-De Los Santos Preview

The career of undefeated former two-division world champion Shakur Stevenson thus far has been one of dominance. After winning world championships in both the 126lb. Featherweight and 130lb. Jr. Lightweight divisions, Stevenson in part because of difficulty making the 130lb. Jr. Lightweight limit prior to his last scheduled title defense of the unified WBO/WBC world championship against Robson Conceicao In September of last year, losing the championship on the scale prior to scoring a twelve round unanimous decision, Stevenson set his sights on the 135lb. Lightweight division where in his debut as a Lightweight, he scored a knockout of a “Game,” but overmatched previously undefeated Shuichiro Yoshino in an elimination bout to determine the number one contender for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Lightweight championship of the world.

As most Boxing fans know, the WBC world championship had been fully unified as part of the Undisputed Lightweight championship of the world held by Devin Haney. While it appeared as though Haney and Stevenson were on a collision course for what would be a highly anticipated showdown between two master boxers, Haney will be moving up to the 140lb. Jr. Welterweight division to challenge WBC world champion Regis Prograis on December 9th in San Francisco, CA. Although Haney is still recognized as the Lightweight champion of the world by the WBA, IBF, and WBO as of this writing, the WBC opted to strip Haney of its world championship, which not only broke the undisputed championship at 135lbs., but also created an opportunity for Stevenson to fight for a vacant world championship.

An opportunity that will come on Thursday, November 16th as Stevenson will face WBC number six rated contender Edwin De Los Santos at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. A fight that can be seen in the United States on digital subscription sports streaming network ESPN+

It is hard to ignore the perception of at least some that this fight may amount to little more than Stevenson, a potential all-time great fighter, being able to add another world championship to his resume against a relatively unknown opponent at least in some circles. This fight also comes as a result of the politics that be in the sport in that we have an undefeated former two-division world champion, who is the number one contender, facing the number six rated contender for a vacant world championship.

While this does in some ways put a spotlight on some of the flaws that come with the politics in the sport of Boxing in that number two rated contender Frank Martin is not in this fight, nor are contenders three, four, or five, Boxing is nevertheless as this observer has pointed out numerous times over almost three decades, a sport of opportunity. One has clearly presented itself for De Los Santos.

Who is Edwin De Los Santos one might ask? He is in fairness a top contender, who is the current WBC Continental Americas Lightweight champion, one of the regional championships in the WBC, which more often than not, serves as both an elevator for a fighter climbing the rankings, and a precursor for the fighter holding it to eventually challenge for a world championship. De Los Santos will enter this fight with a record of 16-1, with 14 Knockouts \, having scored knockouts in his last three fights. With a career knockout percentage of over 87%, De Los Santos should be viewed as a dangerous fighter with nothing to lose and everything to gain here.

The question going into this fight is whether De Los Santos will be able to solve the puzzle that is Shakur Stevenson's Boxing style. Stevenson is a crafty and slick boxer who has a good mix of hand speed and punching power. What has made him so dominant is to this point in his career, no opponent has been able to make him uncomfortable, much less hurt him or be able to win rounds during a fight. Although Stevenson has only ten knockouts in his twenty career wins, he is capable of scoring a knockout if the opportunity is there, though some might argue that there have been a few instances where Stevenson might have opted for decision victories rather than pressing to try and get knockouts in some of his previous fights.

Perhaps one wrinkle that some might point to as this fight approaches is this is a rare instance where two southpaws will be facing each other for a world championship. This, at least in theory, removes the theoretical advantages that a southpaw has when they face a fighter that boxes out of an orthodox stance. Nevertheless, the fight plan for De Los Santos comes down to one thing. Pressure, Pressure, Pressure… De Los Santos must find a way to cut the ring off from Stevenson to try and nullify his ability to move and apply pressure on him to set up opportunities to land his power punches. Simply put, if De Los Santos allows Stevenson to be in a position where he can dictate the pace of the fight and find his rhythm early, this may end up as most of Stevenson's previous bouts have, where the only question might be whether he will box his way to a convincing unanimous decision victory or if he might be able to get a stoppage in the middle or late rounds if he presses the issue.

Even though this fight might indeed signal a period of transition for the Lightweight division as one former undisputed world champion might exit the division depending on what happens as he tests the Jr. Welterweight waters in a few weeks by challenging for another world championship, Shakur Stevenson should keep in mind, despite being the heavy favorite and appearing to at least be in a position to become the central figure of the Lightweight division, if he is in any way overlooking Edwin De Los Santos, it could prove costly because unlike his opponent, Stevenson may indeed have everything to lose both in terms of his standing in the sport as well as some potential lucrative fights that could be in store for him in the always talent-deep Lightweight division.

“And That's The Boxing Truth.”

Stevenson vs. De Los Santos takes place on Thursday, November 16th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The fight as well as its full undercard can be seen in the United States on digital subscription sports streaming network ESPN+ beginning at 5:40PM ET/2:40PM PT.

Press Release: November 14, 2023 By ProBox TV-  World title challenger Jimmy Kelly Jr is ready to push on to the big names at middleweight as he returns to the ring this Wednesday night on ProBox TV.

Credit: ProBox TV

Kelly Jr gave an insight into his year-ending ten-rounder against fellow world title challenger Juan Jose Velasco.

The Manchester native said, “I’m glad to be back on ProBox TV and ready to put on an explosive performance like people haven’t seen before.

“I’ve got different elements to my game. I can come forward and fight. I showed that against Jaime Munguia. I went in there and banged with a banger, and I’ll do it again if I have to.

“I’m planning on showing I’m excited and that I can compete with the best at middleweight. People around me know that I’m going to show it to everybody watching on Wednesday night.”

Kelly Jr has repeatedly called out unified middleweight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly, however, the Mancunian outlined his hopes for 2024.

The middleweight contender stated, “I’ve been calling Janibek out for years now. I’m more well-known in Kazakhstan than anybody he’s fought. I beat Kanat Islam and got ignored, but it is what it is. I can’t make him fight me. I’m happy to jump in with another Kazak if it means forcing a fight with Janibek.

“The likes of Elijah Garcia are on my radar, I’ll fight all of those types of guys. I’ve beaten undefeated hyped-up fighters before and I’ll do it again if it means getting to a world middleweight title fight in 2024. That’s what I want.”

Ajagba Makes His Case

There are many constants in the sport of Boxing. Constants such as rival promoters who seemingly at any cost will avoid working with each other even if it were not only to their benefit, but of the sport itself. Fighters for whatever reason choosing to sit on the sidelines rather than compete on a regular basis. Despite the detriment to their careers, the lure of sitting out for one significant payday more often than not, proves to be too great. The numerous sanctioning organizations in the sport that due to their own individual policies, at times end up standing in the way of fights that not only the public wants to see, but bouts that are held in such regard that many believe it will elevate Boxing to a higher level.

These constants for better or worse are among the things that many associate with the sport. Perhaps one constant that does not always get the attention that it deserves is the constant pursuit of the next contender for a world championship. In regard to Boxing's Heavyweight division, it is a pursuit that seemingly goes hand and hand with a contender being able to make the transition to world champion. After all, whenever a fighter wins a world championship, inevitably the first question that follows any questions regarding the fight they just fought is either What's next for you? or Who's next for you?

The recent years in the division has seen two undefeated world champions Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury emerge as the two central figures in the Heavyweight division. with Usyk and Fury continuing to do circles around each other as an encounter between the two for the Undisputed Heavyweight championship of the world remains ever elusive. With a fight between the two at least signed on paper to take place sometime in 2024, the scrambling of potential challengers to either face the winner of the potential Usyk-Fury fight or to potentially step in to face either champion, in the event of that potential fight falling through, is in full n

swing. One such fighter who is looking to emerge as a potential challenger is current WBC number seven rated Heavyweight contender Efe Ajagba.

Ajagba, a native of Ughelli, Nigeria, had worked his way to a record of 18-1, with 13 Knockouts. The lone blemish on his record came in October 2021 when he lost a ten round decision to fellow rising contender Frank Sanchez. Since the loss to Sanchez, Ajagba rebounded to win three straight bouts. This culminated in his fight against Joe Goodall on November 4th at the Tahoe Blue Event Center in Lake Tahoe, NV. Goodall, a native of Brisbane, Australia, emerged on the scene earlier this year by scoring an unexpected sixth round stoppage of Stephen Shaw, a fighter that Ajagba had also scored a victory over earlier this year. In that fight, Goodall showed impressive punching power in being able to drop and ultimately stop Shaw.

The unexpected, but impressive win for Goodall, opened the door for an opportunity for him to face Ajagba with the WBC's Silver Heavyweight championship at stake. In the overall picture however, the fight more importantly represented a chance to move into the top ten in the WBC's Heavyweight ratings for Goodall and for Efe Ajagba, the holder of the silver title, a chance to make a statement to try and drum up support for a potential title shot down the line.

What stood out to this observer was the sharp and consistent jab that Ajagba quickly established as a focal point of his offense. It was sharp, crisp, and used to create openings for his right hand and for hooks with either hand. For a short time, Goodall seemed to hold his own, did attempt to back Ajagba up, and did land some solid hooks to the head.

Goodall however, was unable to nullify Ajagba's ability to throw and land his jab, seemingly at will as he re-established distance between himself and Goodall and gradually began to break his opponent down. Ajagba's harder punches, and commitment to using a fundamental approach in his attack of Goodall created a barrage of unanswered punches in the fourth round, which forced the fight to be stopped.

Summed up simply, Goodall just did not have an answer to avoid Ajagba's jab, which served to set up effective combinations that only increased as the fight progressed. For Efe Ajagba, this proved to be the type of performance that a contender looks for as they aim to try and get an opportunity to fight for a world championship.

The obvious question is what is next? Obviously, the key for ant fighter that is looking to generate buzz for a potential challenge for a world title, the key is to try and stay active, but also do so strategically, which can prove to be a delicate balancing act between looking for opposition that will generate both interest and should the fighter be successful, only increase calls for that fighter to get that opportunity to fight for a world title, and the perceived element of what might be viewed specifically by a fighter's handlers as a fight that might be too risky. It certainly is not an exact science and the way a fighter is guided towards an opportunity at a world title will vary based on the fighter.

For now, Ajagba may look to fighter such as top contender Jonathan Guidry, who coincidentally also picked up a victory on November 4th in Miami, FL in scoring a second round knockout over previously undefeated Jesus Escalera, as a potential next opponent. Truth be told, anyone who is a top ten to top fifteen contender could be a potential opponent for a world champion based on their most recent performance. The question for Ajagba and Guidry, both top ten Heavyweight contenders, is if they see a potential fight between each other as potentially the quickest path to a potential title shot. Amongst the field of potential contenders that Ajagba could fight next, Guidry, a boxer/puncher with a good mix of hand speed and punching power, who narrowly lost a decision to former WBA number one contender Trevor Bryan in January 2022, his only career loss, might be the type of style challenge for Efe Ajagba to show he is ready for his shot at what could be at that time, the Undisputed Heavyweight championship of the world.

INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR JAKE PAUL RETURNS TO THE RING TO FACE 10-1 PROFESSIONAL BOXER ANDRE AUGUST FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15 LIVE ON DAZN

Credit: DAZN

Press Release: November 8, 2023 By DAZN -  Paul vs. August to headline Most Valuable Promotions’ Most Valuable Prospects IV at Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, FL, which will air live to global audiences via DAZN subscription

Shadasia Green vs. Franchón Crews-Dezurn WBC super middleweight championship set for special championship feature

Tickets on sale Thursday, November 9 at 1:00pm ET at Ticketmaster.com

NEW YORK – November 8, 2023 – Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) today announced international superstar Jake “The Problem Child” Paul (7-1, 4 KOs) will face professional boxer Andre August (10-1-1 5 KOs) in his highly-anticipated return to the ring as he continues his path to becoming a world champion on Friday, December 15 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, FL. Paul vs. August, an eight-round cruiserweight fight, will headline MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects IV, presented by Celsius Essential Energy Drink, and is poised to be one of the biggest boxing events in Orlando’s history. August has the most experience and KOs of any opponent Paul has faced in his career. Despite shattering records by selling more pay-per-views in his first eight fights than any other boxer ever, Paul vs. August will be offered as part of the DAZN subscription package to ensure it is affordable and accessible to fans worldwide as August is introduced to the masses. Digital sports, entertainment, and gaming company DraftKings will serve as the event’s Official Sports Betting Partner. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, November 9 at 1:00pm ET on Ticketmaster.com.

December’s return to the ring promises to showcase Paul’s best effort and his toughest challenge yet as a hungry fighter ready to do whatever it takes to become a world champion.  Facing his first loss at the hands of Tommy Fury in February by a contentious split decision, Paul found himself back on top in August, defeating Nate Diaz by unanimous decision. In just three years since turning pro, Paul has collected multiple accolades, including ESPNRingside’s 2021 Knockout of The Year, Sports Illustrated’s 2021 Breakout Boxer of the Year, and ESPNRingside’s 2022 Viral Moment of the Year. Paul also earned distinction on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s August 2023 issue, “The 50 Most Influential Figures in Sports,” for his success in the ring, his groundbreaking work to revolutionize pay equality in boxing, and his support of female fighters and boxing prospects through Most Valuable Promotions alongside co-founder Nakisa Bidarian.

“I’m a professional boxer and I want to be world champion, so I need to pursue the path towards greatness against people who have been boxing their whole life,” said Jake Paul. “So far, my entire boxing career has been on pay-per-view, but now it’s about more than business. Now I want to build my experience in the ring against seasoned fighters. I’m coming to prove my greatness on Friday, December 15th live on DAZN for the world to see.”

Hailing from the streets of Beaumont, Texas, Andre August has emerged from the trenches to one of the biggest stages in boxing. Growing up, August found himself drawn into street fighting due to his involvement with gang activity following the passing of his mother during his sophomore year of high school. Fueled by an unyielding fire and a growing passion to do more, he made a defining choice to pursue boxing.

He faced insurmountable odds, yet his unrelenting determination and skill propelled him through the amateur ranks. August established himself as a self-made fighter, motivated to prove himself and make a lasting impact on the world of professional boxing.

At 10-1-1 with five KO's, August has proven his tenacity and power in the ring. Coming off a unanimous decision victory over the undefeated 7-0 Brandon Martin and currently riding a five-fight winning streak, August will provide Jake Paul his toughest test in the ring to date.

“I don't talk very much. I’m all about that action! Jake Paul has the money, the fame, the team and the resources but he doesn’t have my hunger,” said Andre August. “When that bell rings, I am going to go straight to Jake Paul and ring his bell and send him back to YouTube for good.”

MVP’s Shadasia “The Sweet Terminator” Green is also set to take on Franchón Crews-Dezurn for the WBC super middleweight title, as a special championship feature on the Paul vs. August card – marking MVP’s latest significant women’s championship fight as the company works to establish equity across the sport.

“I am the truth, and I’m going to show the world on Friday, December 15th that I’m the best,” said Shadasia Green. “Franchón – I’m better than you. All you are is a singer with a bad wig, so just show up and shut up.”

“I’m on a mission to continue to prove why I’m one of the greatest,” said Franchón Crews-Dezurn. “On Friday, December 15th, I’m going to put in the work, and I’m going to show you why I’m The Heavy Hitting Diva. You can snatch my wig off. I'm still that girl.”

“Jake’s global star power has already made him one of the biggest names in boxing. He’s sold more pay-per-views over his first eight fights than any other boxer ever and he’s one of the few names in the game advocating for women and prospects in the sport,” said MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian. “And now he’s once again doing what very few of the best and biggest boxers in the world have done in their 9th professional fight – fighting someone with a better record and more experience. Pound-for-pound, the great Terrence Crawford fought a 9-14 opponent in his 9th fight, Canelo Alvarez fought a 0-1 opponent, and Gervonta Davis fought an opponent that had 31 losses! But Terence, Canelo and Gervonta didn’t have the world watching. Jake Paul does, and he’s once again putting it all on the line taking on a 10-1 opponent. Thank you to DAZN for working with us to make this event accessible to fans around the world. Paul vs. August and Green vs. Crews-Dezurn are going to make for an unforgettable fight night for fans.”

“Jake Paul is one of the biggest names in boxing and we are delighted to be broadcasting his fight on Friday, December 15th,” said Joe Markowski, CEO of DAZN North America. “Jake has always stated he wants to be a World Champion and this is another step towards that dream. The world will be watching. Live and exclusive, only on DAZN.”

“On behalf of the entire team at Caribe Royale we’re excited to be hosting this event,” said Amaury Piedra, Managing Director of Caribe Royale Resort and President of Boxlab Promotions. “Jake has made this his second home with the Most Valuable Prospect Series and we were proud when he and Nakisa decided to have us host this event in the great city of Orlando! As the only 4- diamond, all suite convention hotel in Florida, we strive to bring the best events to the Central Florida area for not only our out of town guests but local residents alike. December 15th will be a memorable, action packed night and we expect a sold out night at Caribe Royale!”

Paul vs. August on Friday, December 15 will headline MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects IV, featuring top up-and-coming boxing talent, with additional bouts to be announced in the coming weeks. Most Valuable Promotions will also continue to showcase its premiere talent throughout 2024 to global audiences on DAZN with multiple events set to return to the Caribe Royale Orlando. MVP’s undisputed featherweight champion and seven-division world champion Amanda Serrano (45-2-1, 30 KOs) most recently defeated WBO challenger Danila Ramos in a historic 12-round, three-minute rounds unified featherweight title bout, equal to men’s championship fights, on October 27 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. Directly preceding the fight was MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects III.
